Matthew C. Patrick received a BA in Fine Art from Upsala College. Although quite small, Upsala had an excellent printmaking department with several etching and lithography presses. They also had Solnhofen limestone blocks from Germany. But the most valuable asset at this small liberal arts college was a wonderful young professor from Okinawa, Yoshi Higa. Patrick studied under Higa in several classes and they later became drinking companions. Under Higa’s watchful eye, Patrick developed his knowledge and love of printmaking.
